GIONNA ROSE

"Gionna Rose" was a staged screenplay reading by IMAGE (Independent Media Artists Group of Palo Alto) written by Zoitsa AlKhattat. A "staged screenplay reading" basically means that the whole cast was up on stage and read the screenplay all the way through with a narrator in front of a live audience. After the casting process was completed, we met with Director Hank Gray four times and read through the screenplay non-stop to prepare for the actual performance which was held on Saturday, October 17, 1998 at Fuel, located at 44 Almaden Avenue in San Jose.

As mentioned above, Hank Gray was the Director and Ron Montana was the Producer. The narrator was Candy Campbell; my parents "Sophia and Nick" were played by Caitlin McClure and Edward Spivak (he also played the "policeman", the "old man at the garage sale", "Mike the business man" and "Allan"). Elio (my adopted grandpa) was played by Ramon Verdugo Galindo. Jo McGinley played "Jeannie"; Jessie Clark played "Ryan" (he also played "Tony", the "Train Conductor" and the "Bank Teller"); Elaina Janell played "Angelina" (she also played the "Bank Clerk", the "Airline Reservation Clerk", "Ryan's receptionist" and "Gloria"); Chris Clark played "Gary" (he also played "Alvin", a "young man", the "gas station attendant" and "Dirk"); Glorinda Marie played "Helen" (she also played the "Bank Supervisor", the "rude Asian woman", the "Older woman at grocery store, "Kit Kat" (oh, how I wanted that role... it's Elio's cat) and the "Teacher's Aide"; and Barbara Olson played "Marion" (she also played "Apartment Manager", "Hospital Receptionist" and "Nurse"....

Oh, and... me? Well, I played "Lissy Manis", the daughter of the main character "Sophia Manis". Lissy gives her mom Sophia and her adopted Grandpa Elio the strength and love they need to carry on when they are left all alone... I also got to play "Matthew" which gave me some more funny lines to say... it was all so much fun I didn't want it to end...
